Careers...

Ruapehu College has a well-resourced careers department that is openly available for all students to use at any time. This is located in the library. These resources are being continually monitored for effectiveness and are upgraded as required. Each month check out the information board, as it will focus on different potential career pathways.
Feel free to browse through the information that is available, and put your name on the booking sheet if you want specific assistance. A good place to start is the careers NZ website that has many useful tools and links to help you explore your options.
All Year 9 students do a Careers Unit in Social Studies.  After looking at their own qualities, strengths and interests, they look at which occupations fit with what they know about themselves. Year 10 students participate in a work experience week and during English you will complete a CV and learn how to write formal letters.
All students are advised at least once yearly on the subjects that they should take for their chosen careers. Pamphlets, books, DVD’s, internet and visiting professionals can assist students in developing their career plans and setting goals. We also offer visits to Palmerston North to attend open days at tertiary institutions and the Manawatu Careers expo.
Remember that Careers is a journey and not a destination.
